Bones are moved by muscles

A joint is made of two bones or three, which are wrapped and fastened together by soft tissues like membranes, ligaments and tendons. There is a tiny space between the bones filled with fluid for lubricating, shock absorbing, and delivering nutrition to the joint.

There are three factors that can cause knee joint problems; autoimmune diseases, pathogens, and overuse of the join. Overuse of the joint is the major cause of joint problems. Overuse includes degeneration (aging), trauma (accidents), and improper heavy use of the joints (running).

Except for trauma, most overused joint problems are caused by the unbalanced tension of muscles and tendons or ligaments. This imbalance makes the bones touch each other and then the cartilage wears off on top of each bone.  After the cartilage has been damaged, joint problems begin.

Most people who have overused joint problems don’t know how to take care of their joints. They even accept wrong suggestions about the care of their joints from medical care professionals.  For example, patients with  knee joint problem with cartilage damage are still maintained on their cardiovascular exercises, accompanied by taking pain killers.

In clinic, I have seen many patients with joint problems who are runners or athletes and suffering with knee joint problems but still maintaining their exercises. They are waiting to receive artificial joints!  I always ask those patents if they have seen tigers or lions running after their meals to maintain their running speed or if they have seen bears doing weight lifting exercise to maintain their big muscles?

Since unbalanced muscle tension causes joint problems, it is necessary to treat the muscles and tendons first. Of course, if the joint is inflamed, we need to care for that too. To care for overused joint problems, acupuncture with a massage therapy is the best choice, accompaning it with yong kong® exercise.
